After patch 1.2 of Genshin Impact, you will have a quest to investigate Strange Ice located in the Dragonspine region. You will have a placed waypoint to get on the snow-covered road, which is the first area when you enter the Dragonspine region. You will reach the Strange Ice while exploring the new Dragonspine region in Genshin Impact.
Usually, you can solve these quests by going to the quest location and pressing the interact button to investigate, but for this specific quest, players are asked to complete the challenge manually. What this means is that you will have to go to the location and find the right spot of Strange Ice to investigate as it would be a bit of an overwhelming experience. You cannot break the Ice to investigate which is why you will need to think outside the box.
How to Investigate Strange Ice in Genshin Impact
When you reach the quest area, you will find a weird ice shard between dead trees. It will have a weird type of lightning within itself. This light will be emitting from the large red crystals of ice shards, you can break these crystals to make them drop smaller red crystals, and then you can pick these up for storing in your inventory and gain a buff.
Now if you run directly towards the central big shard emitting red light from the tree and hit it with any melee weapon, you will inflict some damage and it can be destroyed to drop some small shards for you to pick up.
You will find a great number of red crystals lying all around this area and you can destroy them to get smaller crystals for the buff, make sure to reach the ice core as fast as possible if you do not want to lose it. You might need to hit the central bigger shard four times after which it will break and it will reveal another shard from within it and you will be able to interact with it.
Upon interacting with it, the shard will launch up into the sky growing a strange tree where it lied. This tree is named as “Frostbearing Tree” and it can be ranked up by players gathering Crimson Agate and bringing the material to the Frostbearing tree.
Ranking up Frostbearing Tree will reward you with numerous awards, this might include Warming Bottle to fight the effect of Sheer Cold, which is an environmental effect on your character.
