NVIDIA RTX 40 SUPER GPUs: Rumored Specs and Comparison

NVIDIA is gearing up for a significant launch in January 2024 with its GeForce RTX 40 SUPER GPU lineup, including the RTX 4080 SUPER, 4070 Ti SUPER, and 4070 SUPER. This series is expected to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 8, 2024, with subsequent retail availability throughout the month.

Launch Schedule

  • RTX 4070 SUPER: January 17
  • RTX 4070 Ti SUPER: January 24
  • RTX 4080 SUPER: January 31

Rumored Specifications and Performance

The RTX 40 SUPER GPUs, based on the Ada Lovelace architecture, promise enhanced core configurations and performance upgrades:

  • RTX 4080 SUPER: Expected to feature the AD103-400 GPU with 10,240 cores, 320 TMUs, 112 ROPs, and 64 MB of L2 cache. It’s anticipated to be 3-5% faster on average than the RTX 4080 Non-SUPER, with a similar TGP of 320W.
  • RTX 4070 Ti SUPER: Likely to offer a choice of AD103-275 / AD102-175 GPU SKUs with 8,448 cores and 48 MB of L2 cache. This model could see an average performance boost of 15% over its non-SUPER variant.
  • RTX 4070 SUPER: Expected in AD104-350 or AD103-175 SKU configurations with 7,168 cores and 48 MB of L2 cache. This card might offer a 14% performance increase over the RTX 4070 Non-SUPER.

Please note that these specifications are based on leaks and rumors and may not be entirely accurate until officially confirmed by NVIDIA. The performance boosts are also speculative and based on early reports.

While NVIDIA has not finalized the pricing for the SUPER series, these GPUs are positioned to compete strongly in the market. The RTX 4080 SUPER, in particular, is expected to challenge AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX, especially if priced around $1000-$1100 US.

Interestingly, there were plans for an RTX 4090 SUPER, but these were dropped due to recent sanctions limiting the release of high-performance GPUs in certain regions. As of now, there’s no indication of an RTX 4090 SUPER or Ti GPU being released.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series is poised to offer gamers and professionals significant performance upgrades. With its January 2024 launch, NVIDIA continues to push the boundaries of graphics technology, maintaining its position as a leader in the GPU market.
